The Mighty Hercules airing on KTV

Post by somedude37 »

There's a channel available on Dish Network now called KTV (Kid's TV) which airs some cartoon series and one of them they're running daily now at 6:00 PM is The Mighty Hercules. Some of you might remember a few years back on the old board I posted about this cartoon and a few caps of some Helena DiD scenes I'd found in it. I bought a homebrew DVD set online which had most, but not all of the 128 different 5-minute stories from this show. That was the biggest collection of episodes I could find in any one place at the time. Unfortunately, I believe I counted some 15 or so segments that were missing from the dvd set, so I couldn't check this cartoon in its entirety for DiD. This means Helena could still have a few more scenes in it. :)

There are now a good chunk of episodes that you can find on Youtube, but they are very much scattered amongst many different users and I doubt that they have as many as are on the dvd set I have.
So this show being re-aired on KTV now represents a golden chance for somebody to finally check this 'toon out completely so we can cross it off the list. This is a very old and rare cartoon and no company seems to be rushing to put all 128 segments on dvd anytime soon. So if any of you get this channel and can DVR it for a while to try and record the whole thing, that would be great. I'd do it myself but I don't even have cable at my place.

I don't know if KTV even has all 128 short segments to air. They may or may not. They run 4 or 5 of these 5 minute stories every night in that half-hour from 6:00-6:30 PM EST. They are using a re-mastered version of the 'toon with restored color and an alternate theme song that I believe first aired on some channel in 2005 that I forget the name of. How many total episodes they actually have probably depends on how many episodes aired back then on that other channel if they are using the same version. But it's worth checking into anyway. Also, this cartoon is apparently airing on the Teletoon Retro channel as of 2012. I'm not sure if it's still on there, but that would be another source to check it.

The thing that makes this cartoon so hard and confusing to check is that the individual 5-minute episodes don't have title cards, so there's really nothing to go by other than this episode list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mighty_Hercules" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The problem is that it's often hard to tell which episode is which, and depending where you look people don't always use the same title for the same episode. A perfect case in point would be this episode I had found previously on the dvd set, which somebody has now put on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJYUZLrDKHg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is the episode where Helena gets a hand-gag from Daedalus, and on there they are calling it "Helena's Doppleganger." The problem is, that title doesn't match with any on the list above. And there are others where people just give their own titles, because there's no "official" list of the episode titles. That makes it very hard to know which ones you've seen and which ones you haven't unless you take that list and use it as a checklist, marking off which episodes you think you've seen as you go. I wish I'd done this a few years back when I watched all the episodes on my dvd set, but stupidly I didn't. Even then though, there are some titles that are ambiguous and you're not sure which episode they fit with because they could seem to apply to more than one.

So to make a long story short, checking this cartoon 100% is not easy, but if any of you have access to those channels that run it you at least have a chance to do it. I'm sure there are a lot of episodes that have still not been put online so those channels seem the most likely source to have all the episodes right now.

And as for what Helena DiD scenes I already found when I looked through this before, well I know she has several tie-ups, an OTS carry without tie-up, a turned-into-statue scene, and that hand-gag scene from the ep posted above. That is the only gag of her I've seen in the series too, so it's probably very unlikely that she gets an actual gag in any of the missing eps, but I can't rule it out completely yet. :rolls:
