Remember these books? There's a revival which sadly does away with illustrations showing the protagonist, to try to emphasize the "YOU are the main character" aspect, but the original versions had plenty of illustrations of the boys and girls, men and women who were the protagonists going on all these fun adventures.
And there was a lot of DiD. A lot. Sadly I only have one illustration on-hand, but from "Mystery of the Maya", there's this sad end for the female protagonist:
I remember in "The Case of the Silk King" it was possible to be kidnapped (with an illustration) and kept captive for a long time, bound and gagged. And in "The Lost Ninja", you could be kidnapped (also with an illustration) and tied up and carried away to a slaver ship. Look up those books if you're interested.

Re: Choose Your Own Adventure
I have this packed away somewhere. Sadly, no illustrations inside, just the cover. If the tied up princess looks familiar, it's because the artist copied Lois Lane from the Superman v. the Mole Men black and white serial.
Jem (you) doesn't get tied up in the adventure. The closest you get is when Jem/you confronts Eric Raymond who's behind the kidnapping and Jem worries that he might tie her up like the princess and then she wouldn't be able to use Synergy.

Okay, I got out my books and took photos of some of the illustrations. Here we go. I'll be including some pictures of the character before and after they're captured, so you can see what they look like normally as well as see them in other situations.
From Secret of the Pyramids:
From The Case of the Silk King:
For those who'd like to see a guy in distress, I got Who Killed Harlowe Thrombey?
Why couldn't the girl have been caught and the boy rescue her? Well, at least we got the whopping three scenes in The Last Ninja to make up for it!
