Japanese Ghosts That Tie People Up?

Post by Daikinbakuju »

Any ideas?

I know there are some that love to kidnap women or kids.
And then I recall one that is a tree that became haunted from the blood of dead soldiers in a battlefield.

Well some interpretations of Noppera-bo steal faces, but that might be too extreme for you.

Sarugami. Not a ghost, but still a Yokai that does that sort of thing.

Not from Japanese myth or a yokai but maybe a ghost from the Fatal Frame series? I can't really think of much unless the ghosts were binding them to complete whatever sacrifice or ritual that stopped them from moving on. Only one I can really think of and even then it's a bit of a stretch, is from the fifth game were there's a split second scene of the main character getting pulled underwater in a bathtub by a bunch of hair acting like tentacles.

Stolen faces could make for a nice "bad end" or "game over" if the damsel fails to escape in time.
It can be portrayed in a comical manner, like the damsel walking around without a face, while the villain runs off with the stolen face.

The thing is wondering what would the sarugami do to the girl if she fails to escape.
Yokais normally kill or eat their captives...

There's the Ittanmomen, a possessed roll of cloth/sheet that flies about and wraps around its victims.

This is a good idea :3

I can't believe I forgot this one, even though I watched Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro.

A couple more you could look into are the Ame Onna, the rain woman who kidnaps crying children with her sack during rainy nights either to eat or replace a child they lost, and the other is the Rokurokubi, they love to scare people and cause mischief, so maybe using their long necks to wrap or tie up some poor girl to scare?

Just thinking from a video game perspective and how to make "bad ends" without it being violent, fatal or gory.
I also like to think of unique ways the ghosts/yokai can use to tie people up.

A Nurikabe could pull a girl against its body and encase her with plaster.
If she fails to escape, you'd get a "petrification" bad end where she is turned into a plaster statue.
Or maybe she's just stuck there until a different yokai or human bandit takes advantage and kidnaps her.
