Self-Rescuing

What are you thoughts on scenes where the damsel/guy in distress free themselves. Personally, I'm indifferent to it. I like it because it makes the person seem more independent, however, other times, I like it when someone frees the damsel/guy in distress.

So, what are your thoughts on self rescuing?

This might sound sexist, but to me, rescuing builds relationships. I like to believe Heloise could untie herself whenever she wants, but waits to see if Jimmy will rescue her.

As long as it works within the established setting, the one in distress freeing themselves doesn't bother me. I do prefer seeing them get rescued, but that might be familiarity with how often it works like that.
