Staff were informed of the shutdown this morning, according to a reliable Kotaku source. Some 150 people were laid off, and both of the studio's current projects—Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313—were cancelled. Disney will still use the LucasArts name to license games, but the studio is no more.

Re: Lucasarts, RIP
i have mixed feeligns about this one i must admit. at first it looked like them meddling far too much, but i can also see it from a business standpoint. most of the games they produced were meh, to shit, to likely to make a starwars fan cry blood from their sheer sorrow. they would probably want to change things up and have better things released.
i have the same feeling about star wars the clone wars. at first i was pissed that they ended the series, though at least six more episodes will be released at some point. however from a creative standpoint, i can see them wanting to leave the confines of the space between the movies, the events of the clone wars, for projects taking place at other times in the series. they do intend to create a new animated series, and hopefully it is in the same vein as the clone wars just set in a different point and time. hell even the unclear fate of ahsoka might be for the best. for it seems she simply faded from the conflict, like a specter, unknowing that her leave likely spared her the brunt of order 66.
althrough form a business standpoint, the cloen wars being canceled is a fool's move. one of the most beloved forms of star wars media out there, one that has sustained it in the hearts and minds of many for five or so years, and you end it because of an upcoming movie? by GOD are they stupid.

1313 is best left buried in the dirt. A rated-M game from a franchise for 8 year olds, regardless of what the nerds say? Great idea. Though FA will go missed by the Battlefront fans. The good Star Wars games were last gen, just stick with them, guyez.
All I'm sayin' is: Give war a chance.

Most 8 year olds can deal with the concept of death, you know. Especially deaths as operating-table clean as is in Star Wars where wounds are instantly cauterized, bodies evaporate into the force, and where man and machine explode into neat little balls of spark and flame and (if corpses are recovered) you never really see the gore and damage done to a body from an impact at high speed.mutantoverlord wrote:http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&clie ... =144&ty=59" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;AH-64D Longbow wrote:1313 is best left buried in the dirt. It's for kids. The chief market has and always will be for kids. There's no need to be defensive about it, either, as most programs are written with the parents in mind as they have to suffer through it more often than not.
I recall being that age and being infatuated with Exo Squad, which had a surprisingly good storyline, setting, and over-arcing narrative for a kid's cartoon. It dealt with foreign occupation, the concepts of treason, a little bit of genocide, slavery, and a whole lot of death. In the end, it was a series that existed to market a line of toys.

lets see ehre then. we have the togruta enslaved, about twenty of them dropped to theri doom, Obiwan being cosntantly physically abused and, despite being powerful enoguh to kill most of the guards, had to worry about a small genocide himself, s t he togruta slaves would suffer should he fight back even somewhat.AH-64D Longbow wrote:Most 8 year olds can deal with the concept of death, you know. on the other side of that world Anakin was forced to be the pet for a slave monger queen, which quite bordered on somethign sexual in intent. ahsoka, a minor, was dressed in a half naked sexy outfit and was forced into a cage where she would starve and thirst till her will broke...... not to mention we see a spear like object compeltely stabbed through a guy later on as well.
did i mention this was all in one episode?
you point falls flat dude. beleive it or not an overabundance of gore is actually a sign of imaturity. just becuase there is not much blood does not mean it is kid stuff.
oh, and lets not forget the finale of the season. betrayal on a very, very personal level, treason, someone nearly being sentenced to death because of a mistrial, someone likely facing the death penalty because of a real trial, and the character who suffered through this all not accepting becoming a jedi again, as she had been too emotoinally scarred by the hwole ordeal and amount of treachery she faced on all sides to continue being a jedi. and more than likely assuring she survives the God dAmn Genocide to come.

maturity comes from teh story line over the blood and gore in it. and there were quite a few mature story lines, albeit some rather embarrassing ones too, but mostly mature..... be hoenst msot of thsi seris was more mature than a lot of so called Adult films i have seen recently. think about it, most of them have bastardization of a beloved franchise, and ballz jokes that create big old plot holes, stories about sapient living teddy bears in an adult situation, and SOOOOOOOO many, many bad romantic comedies. shudders.AH-64D Longbow wrote:Most 8 year olds can deal with the concept of death, you know. Nah, mature themes aren't violence or sex. Those are teen themes, and most mainstream media, even the one that hints being "mature", is just aimed at teens.
And it's a shame to see Lucasarts gone, but all I liked about it is named Double Fine nowadays.
