Hey,
I finally got round to reading the Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man 156-60 and I was wondering what other people thought.
I thought they were good comics, and I'm a fan of the art style but I'm just not sure how this is going to work in the long run. For me, Spider-Man is and always will be Peter Parker and I can understand the need for change but couldn't they just create a new hero?
I'm just not sure I agree with this idea - killing him seems like it'll be a mistake in the long run.

Re: Death of Spider-Man
I thought when this was coming out it would turn into an ultimate version of "The Other" storyline from a few years ago but it wasn't the case. To be fair, it wasn't a bad story and Bagley's art was pretty good though the storyline felt... forced? Like the Marvel honcho said "Hey! The Ultimate imprint's not doing good. Brian, you're a decent writer; do something to get people interested!"
Since I'm talking about this, I should point out that I stopped reading Ultimate Spidey after a few issues with the Morales character; honestly, I don't like him that much. They're making this big deal that "This kid's important, he's a perfect replacement!" Not really. I don't find him appealing and I just don't see the same drive to help people that Ultimate Peter did. Morales seems to be doing it for the hell of it to me.

Re: Death of Spider-Man
For the comments that Bendis has made, it's clear that it wasn't his idea to kill Peter, probably cam from Quesada. All things considered I like how he's doing the change, and the fourth issue of the new Spidey series really sold Miles to me, now I want to see more.
And the way Peter was offed.... it's not that hard to bring him back. They can always play the "he was just wounded, now he's overseas, retired with his family" card.
I'm just happy because Ultimate Spider-Woman is still around

Re: Death of Spider-Man
I've never read it as I have never read any of the ultimate marvel comics, that being said I find the idea of killing off Peter Parker and replacing him obnoxious (and I was reading the titles back in the 90s during the clone saga and I hated that story to). Comics where the hero, no matter how heroically, is murdered by his archenemy who cackles over his dead body are just not written for me. If I thought it was temporary (like Luthor gloating over Superman's tomb in Funeral for a Friend) I wouldn't mind, but as it seems this is all she wrote for ultimate Peter, I'm glad I never got into the ultimate universe (waaaay too much slaughter and killing for my tastes already anyway).
my two cents for what they are worth

Well, all I can say is you run that risk every time with Marvel. All characters go through bizarre points in their history because the big boys want to push the envelope, but pound for pound IMHO Marvel screws over longtime readers with frustrating plot points more than anybody else.erikson wrote: Comics where the hero, no matter how heroically, is murdered by his archenemy who cackles over his dead body are just not written for me.
Needless to say, I won't be going Ultimate
Just my 2¢
