Anime Sightings Old and New - Kyatto Ninden Teyandee

Post by wc2bmalin »

This one's obscure even by my standards, and I hesitated to post it here until I finally decided that it would be worthwhile if it saved somebody the trouble of looking through its 54 episodes later. Kyatto Ninden Teyandee is an undistinguished kiddie show, but its claim to fame is that it served as the basis for the classic Samurai Pizza Cats. KNT has two short scenes of "animaloid" damsels in distress:

episode #24 - Omitsu, a robotic mountain goat girl (IKYN), is blindfolded and wrapped with a large amount of rope

episode #40 - Princess Usa, a robotic rabbit girl, is roped to a crucifix

(It's been too long since I've seen SPC to remember if either scene appeared there.)

FUCK YES.

Kyatto Ninden Teyandee (or more specifically, Samurai Pizza Cats, the English version) is my all-time favorite anime, but surprisingly, I don't remember the Usa-Hime scene. I recorded the Omitsu scene forever ago on VHS, but the tape is forever lost and I have no methods of retrieving it anyway. Pretty sure Youtube has unsubbed KNT eps.

Also, Pururun is tied up in hair in one episode, though I can't remember what number the episode was. As far as the American plot goes, Prime Minister Seymour "Big" Cheese (Ko'on no Kami) was trying to gain the adulation of Edoropolis/Little Tokyo.

Though it may seem an unlikely choice for licensing, Kyatto Ninden Teyandee is available as a region 1 DVD - an 8-disk collection. I purchased it thinking, "Now I'll be able to find out what they were really saying."

Nyanki Fanatics, when they were still around, dubbed the first three episodes and did a pretty goddamn good job of it.
