CW's Wonder Woman series?

Post by ARNie »

Guess it might have a better chance than the NBC version...

The CW must be really confident in what they've seen for their upcoming show Arrow, or they just remember how much success they had from "Smallville" and they don't want it to go away any time soon. Vulture is reporting that the CW is currently shepherding a new TV series about none other than Wonder Woman for their network.

Allan Heinberg, who has written both "Wonder Woman" comics and the CW series Gilmore Girls, has been tapped to write the script which bears the working title "Amazon." As of now, the script is all that has been ordered. There's no pilot or series commitment yet, and Heinberg is taking the character back to the beginning with a retelling of the origin. Vulture says the series "will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty."

It hasn't quite been a year since the last incarnation of Wonder Woman tried to get on TV from David E. Kelley - hopefully this series makes it further.

Well at least this one actually has involvement from someone in the comics business and it is a Warner Brothers network (who happen to own DC Comics as you all know). As long as this doesn't involve David E. Kelly in anyway, I think this show has a shot. My only hope is that they don't drag out her actually becoming Wonder Woman, like they did Superman in Smallville.

I like Heinberg okay. But he has this odd tendency to take things he does really well and screw them up horribly down the line. Young Avengers, his WW run, Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. All started off strong (Young Avengers lasting the full first arc) and being ultimately savaged by their own creator into either lackluster finishes or incomprehensible messes.

He's also terrible with deadlines. With comics at least. I suppose TV has more of his attention.
