I've been thinking about my financial situation lately, especially since I'm beginning to it might be time for me purchase a new computer. At the moment, I'm trying to decide which would work better for me to raise the necessary funds to afford it.
Commission costs and guidelines would be more or less unchanged (about 10-15 bucks, depending on whether the person wanted a sketch or colored pic, I charge extra for additional characters and/or a background; and I have the right to reject a client's idea for whatever reason I might have, no exceptions, etc. etc.), though I'm still a little annoyed at how badly my previous attempt at getting commissions went.
As far as pic packs go, I'm not sure how that might go. Even though I've attempted to do this before, there are still things I'm concerned about, such as how many pics should be included, and much I should ask for, so people can access the set. But I'll save those questions for another time, probably if I do decide to concentrate on setting up various pic packs.
Anyhow, I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on which would work better for me to help get myself sorted out financially. Thanks for reading.

Re: So....Reopen Commissions, or Focus on Pic Packs?
I've always been against pic packs. Despite being better on paper, it really seems to me that the amount of art you get in them doesn't compare to having completely custom art done for you. As a consumer, you don't get to choose what's in the pack and you can't see the contents before you buy it. When the internet is essentially a never-ending deluge of free fap material, paying for an extremely limited source of the same doesn't make sense. Unless the artist is extremely awesome at what he does, there's no real incentive to buy something exclusive from them.
So, ask yourself, are you an awesome enough artist to warrant people buying your art instead of your services?
Addendum: Commissions are a fiercely competitive scene. I can get art from some amazing people for around 15-20 dollars. What are you offering that would make me want to buy from you instead of someone else? As an artist, you have to convince me why I should give you my patronage rather than Daggy, for instance. http://lovelydagger.deviantart.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you didn't get any bites before, then you need to step up your game if you want to keep your prices as they are.
