Dark Knight Rises

Post by laura silverman »

Okay, just getting the thread started.

So the multiplex where I'm seeing Dark Knight Rises at midnight has 24 screens and 19 of them are showing DKR! :O They say that the midnight showings alone are gonna make $30 mil! That's crazy! The last time things were this crazy was when, well, was when The Dark Knight came out four years ago  Wow, really excited to see this, more so than Avengers I must admit. Only 10 hours to go! YAY!!! :D

So I just heard about the gunman opening fire at a midnight showing of Batman in Colorado, killing 14 and wounding 50. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!!!!

Yeah. In light of this horrific tragedy, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to talk about something as trivial in comparison as how good/not good the movie was right now. My heart and my thoughts go to the victims and their families.

Just sad. I woke up in the night feeling something bad had happened.

They're saying the gunman got his weapons legally, which raises even more questions re: how he managed to keep off the radar of those who were supposed to keep such a thing from happening:

Terrible story, some people are trying to tie the crime into the movie (saying the guy thought he was the Joker), nobody could know yet what this psycho's motivation was.

One of my friends came back from watching the film. Luckily he didn't spoil it for me. Much.

I'll just keep this brief, for the last few months he was really, REALLY looking forward to Dark Knight Rises. He still enjoyed the film, however because of what happened earlier Aurora was always in the back of his mind, and because of that he couldn't immensely enjoy the film like he did with the previous two flicks. It was like the film really did live up to his expectations and it was almost everything he was hoping for, but because of current event circumstances he just couldn't feel fully satisfied.

It just didn't feel the same like the previous two films. This is frustrating him because it really should have.

He'll try to watch it again in a week or so, he hopes it'll feel more satisfying the second time around.

I still loved it, it didn't affect me that way (there was applause when the film ended in my theater), but some asshole behind me made a crack about it before the film started. To quote Christopher Nolan "The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me."

Bane's voice took me out of the scene at times. He sounded like the Celebrity Jeopardy version of Sean Connery. I swear, after he said "your punishment must be more severe", I half expected him to say "but not as severe as the punishment I gave Trebek's mother last night!"

I think this article sums up what a difference a day makes, or even a few hours between the Midnight first showing and the normal Friday movie shedule...

I just didn't feel the same way...I get the parallels, but I just didn't get worked up about it myself...still, sympathy for anyone made uneasy by their viewing experience.
