Well for some time now I've been meaning to do a little "investigating" of several Scooby-Doo books to see if Daphne had any good scenes in them. There was one book I've known about for years that supposedly had Daphne getting kidnapped by a scarecrow, called "Scooby-Doo and the Farmyard Fright." Then when this "Kidnapping Daphne Blake" wikia page
(http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Kidnapping_Daphne_Blake" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) showed up I noticed that there were two other books listed under the "novels" section along with the "Farmyard Fright" title. Unfortunately the entries were blank, so there was no way to know what kind of scenes she had in those. But I knew I had to find out. So last week I bit the bullet and ordered those three Scooby titles from Amazon, plus a fourth book that was a very unexpected surprise and turned out to have the best scene of the bunch by far. And now I'd like to share with you guys some scans and descriptions of the scenes I found. I don't want to get anybody's hopes up too much, so let me break the bad news right now: Out of these 4 books one was a total bust, and 2 had only very lame DiD scenes. Now the good news: But the last one turned out to have a very nice pay-off.
I'm going to go in order of publication here, beginning with the 3 books from the "Scooby-Doo Mysteries" series which was published from 1998-2006. It lasted for a total of 35 books. This series was all written by a single author named James Gelsey and these stories tended to re-use past scooby villains from the cartoons in different stories. Duendes del Sur appears to be the illustrator for all of these. These are short chapter books designed for young readers so they're all about 50-some pages in length and they have many full-color illustrations to accompany each story.
Scooby-Doo Mysteries #9 - "Scooby-Doo and the Zombie's Treasure"
- This is the only book that turned out to be a complete bust with no real DiD for Daphne whatsoever. I had hoped that maybe since the same zombie villain from the "Which Witch is Witch" episode of the original series was being re-used here, we might get a nice kidnap & b&g scene for her here as a nostalgic tribute to that ep. WRONG! The only thing that happens to her in this book is she falls down a hole and disappears for a little while. Shaggy and Scooby think that the zombie got her, but it turns out that isn't the case, she just fell. Very disappointing.
Scooby-Doo Mysteries #17 - "Scooby-Doo and the Farmyard Fright"
- I finally got my answer on this one, but I hate to say I didn't like it very much as it was another big letdown of a scene. In this one the gang is visiting a farm where the owner is about to open a giant corn maze for tourists, and a scarecrow runs up and grabs Daphne just at the grand-opening, giving us this one cute little OTS carry panel. Unfortunately, all that happens is he runs off with her, but doesn't even tie her up or anything. She's found by Shaggy and Scooby not long after wandering in the corn maze. She later explains to the gang that she was able to escape from the scarecrow by running away "when he put me down to rest." WTF!? You've just kidnapped a gorgeous beauty like Daphne Blake, and you need to rest!? What the hell scarecrow!? Come on! You don't take a time-out in the middle of a kidnapping! That's why you gotta tie her up first: so she can't run away! Couldn't you at least have locked her up somewhere? Stupid f*@~in' scarecrow.
Scooby-Doo Mysteries #27 - "Scooby-Doo and the Deep-Sea Diver"
- Well in this story we have another bummer of a lame-o, scene courtesy of the Deep-Sea Diver. The gang is visiting a replica pirate ship and the "ghost" of Monsoon Max is after a treasure.
He throws a net over Daphne and the gang (described in text only), but Daphne wiggles out, only to be grabbed by the Diver and dragged away to the back of the ship. Sadly, all that he did with her was to stuff her in a bench-box compartment for safe-keeping, but no ropes or gags.
And now we come to the one really good scene of the bunch, a book that I didn't even know about until I was ordering the other ones and it popped up as a suggested item from Amazon. I clicked on it and what do you know!? The description said that Daphne gets kidnapped by a pirate ghost in it! Since I didn't even know about this new series of Scooby books yet, and that was the very first one I clicked on, it had to be a good sign right? So I ordered it too, and indeed it was. This is the latest book in the newest line of Scooby-Doo novels called "Scooby-Doo Mystery" (not to be confused with the prior "Scooby-Doo Mysteries" series). These books are very similar to that earlier series in that they're about the same # of pages, and they have some but not quite as many illustrations to go along with the story. So far these all have a single author named Kate Howard and the illustrator is Duendes del Sur once again. Let me just say that I REALLY hope those two continue to work together to do all the books in this series if this one is any indication of the kind of scenes we might get for Daphne down the road. Pray that the author is a bit of a DiD fan and she might insert some more scenes like this one now and then in the stories. She's certainly off to a good start!
Unfortunately, there is one big negative difference between this new line and the former series, which is that unlike the "Mysteries" series, these books are not printed in color. In fact, they're printed in grayscale on really thin, cheap paper. No doubt given the state of the economy this is a cost-cutting move by Scholastic to lower their printing costs. Unfortunately it denies us (for the moment at least) of a glorious full-color Daphne DiD pic as you'll see below.
Scooby-Doo Mystery #3 - "The Haunting of Pirate Cove"
- Well in only the 3rd book of this new series published so far, Daphne gets kidnapped and bound & gagged by a pirate ghost! The gang goes on a replica pirate ship cruise that takes them to an island called Pirate Cove for a treasure hunt. But one of the crew is secretly conspiring to find the secret treasure for himself and he uses the guise of a ghost pirate to enact his evil plan. While the gang is out in the woods treasure-hunting, Daphne is snatched and taken away by the ghost pirate (her capture is not shown and barely described, unfortunately) with only a threatening ransom note left behind. Near the end, after the ghost pirate is captured and unmasked, Scooby sniffs out Daphne by a trail of candy she had dropped on the ground to lead the gang to her. We get this one glorious image of Daph sitting in a tree, tied hand and foot and snugly OTM'ed, plus some lovely text description of her bondage and even mmmphing! What a delightful little scene for her huh?
In the actual book, page 54 with her scene is on the back of page 53, but as you'll see on that last scan I combined the two next to each other so we can have the full scene with the image and all the text together. I know it sucks that this scene isn't in color, but I just might be able to do something about that. I will show this to my pal Vince Wyler (http://vwyler.deviantart.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and see if there's any way he might be able to work his magic and colorize this for us. I don't know if he'll be able to do anything with it or not because it's basically a grayscale image and not lineart, but we'll see.
And that's all the new stuff I have for Daphne right now! Hope you guys enjoy these scans! We really should try to find more Daphne scenes from Scooby books and because there are a shitload of them out there and she has to have more DiD scenes than just these. Besides these 4 books, I haven't seen any of the others from either series yet. The "Mysteries" series alone has 35 books and then there is an Italy-only continuation of that series that has more. And there are a bunch of other different series of Scooby books which can be seen here: http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Scooby-Doo_(novels" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) There is no way that is even close to a complete list either because everything on it is from the 90's or 2000's, so it's not even taking into account Scooby books published in earlier decades, and there have to be some.

Re: Daphne scenes from Scooby books
Thanks! Yeah I was pretty tickled to see that scene in there, especially since it was the last of the four books I looked at when I got them in the mail yesterday. Looked like I was gonna strike out completely on these and then --- KACHING! Jackpot! Now if only we could get a colorized version of it, that'd be spectacular! I'll see what Vince can do with it.
Re: Daphne scenes from Scooby books
First of all nice finds, specially the last one, i never would have imagined that such a nice gag of Daphne is out there.
Second of all this is what I like about the Scooby Doo universe, when you are very sure that you found every little DID that ever happened, you still find brand new ones, even gag scenes
Thirdly I saw so far Daphne Blake being tied up and gagged and being stashed in secret chambers, mausoleums in cemeteries, pacifier gagged on a plane, etc. but I never thought that one day I will saw her sitting tied up and gagged on a tree.

Re: Daphne scenes from Scooby books
Thanks everyone! While I'm at it, I might as well post a few more little Daphne scenes I have, this time from Scooby comic books. Several years ago I purchased some issues of the original series of Scooby-Doo comic books published in the U.S. by Gold Key/Whitman Comics. Here's a couple scenes I found in those which you may or may not have seen before:
Scooby Doo...Where are You!_Gold Key #5 - "The Swamp Witch"
- Well this one was a HUGE letdown because as you might have guessed I purchased it knowing that one of the stories in this issue was based directly on the "Which Witch is Which" episode from the original Scooby-Doo, Where are You! series, in which Daphne gets b&g. Here the story follows the plot of the cartoon episode very closely, except when the gang finds Daphne, she's only tied up inside a bag and not gagged like in the cartoon. Or at least if she was supposed to be gagged too, we don't get to see it. It's still kind of a cute scene but a bag doesn't = a gag in my book anyway.
Scooby Doo...Mystery Comics_Gold Key #23 - The Phantom Funnyman
- Now this one is a little better because at least we get a nice 1-panel hand-gag scene for Daphne followed by a another 1-panel wrists-tied-behind-back scene. The gang is searching around some house and the villain grabs & hand-gags Daphne, pulling her behind a sliding panel wall. The sucky thing is that even though she's the first to be captured, she doesn't get any gag or even solo-tie up scene. the next time we see her she's with the rest of the gang in the basement where they've all been tied-up by the villain. We can see her in a 2nd panel and she's clearly still tied, but only in the first panel can we see the ropes.
Those are the only good scenes I've found from that original Gold Key comic series but I haven't been able to check probably even half of them. There were 30 issues altogether, which you can see the list of here: http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Scooby_ ... ery_Comics_(Gold_Key_Comics" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I sold the ones I had years ago so it's hard for me to remember all the ones I checked. I downloaded a torrent recently that had a few issues of this series also, but I didn't find anything good in them.
