Even if they sell off the brand rights in all likelihood, it wouldn't be Hostess Twinkies anymore. :(

I know you were probably using the phrase for comical effect, but just throwing this out there since some people still believe the myth - December 20th is the end of the 13th Baktun, a measurement of time corresponding to roughly 5000 years. December 21st is the beginning of the 14th. The ancient Mayans rejoiced at the prospect of being alive during the transition, much the same as people partied during the Millennium. Modern Mayans (yes, they're still around) are doing everything they can to quell the doomsday hoax.

Meanwhile, all I can think of is Tallahassee from Zombieland taking the news badly, with lots of firearms involved.

I already knew about this and was hoping it wouldn't come to the owners doing what they did.

This old 'Twister' ad sums everything up:

I was wondering if someone was going to make that observation...and in five replies, too.

Hostess may be going bankrupt and such, and actual Twinkies may cease to exist, but never any one fear.

Deep fried whipped shortening will always exist. It is... eternal.

Or perhaps that's reason to panic, I dunno.

Jollyjack's weighed in his thoughts:

And it took eight comments before somebody made a Tallahassee/Zombieland ref.

Who cares? It's junk food. Junk food produced by an idiotic company that pushed its employees too far. They reaped what was sewn.

Stock up on something that isn't going to disappear? How many similar companies will looking to acquire those brands? Quite a few, that's how many. I like how people care more about the fact that a crappy snack cake is going to lose its company brand and not the 18,000 people who have lost their jobs to the stupidity and greed of their management.

If you really wanna stock up, then vacation in Canada, since they're still made there. At least it gets you out into the wilds of a beautiful and untamed country. I know for sure I'm investing in Saputo Inc ASAP if people care this much about snack food.

Then they're silly and they don't have much going on in their lives.

You're starting to sound like the very people who would denigrate the stuff that goes on this board.

Would you consider that silly?
