Oh I agree with you that most superhero costumes are silly from the get go.
I'm just arguing one with an apparently actual sized dove's beak on the nose is sillier

not by very much....when you have characters with wings on their heads, tall animal ears on their heads, lightening bolts on their heads...coffe emachine looking helmets (Galactus), this is small potatoes

Batman's ears make for an intimidating and distinctive silhouette.
Cap's head wings were needed to add a patriotic eagle thing to his costume.
Flash's lightning bolts make him... um... go faster?

Tiny pigeon beak does....?

Makes headbutts really hurt.

Tried it on a test subject, sure got some looks in the street, not sure if it was because of the costume or the twitching body that resulted from it.

The tiny pigeon beak also tricks the really dumb goons into thinking that she really is just a bird and proceed to completely ignore her, allowing her to sneak past them and resolve the situation without resorting to violence.

Duh.

Erikson is right, that all the other super hero costumes are just as silly. The reason that the tiny beak is stupid is from a design standpoint. Having a detail that's so small that it plays no significant part of the overall design, yet draws your attention to it and distracts you from the rest of the costume is just bad design. You never want to have a situation like that as a designer. A part should add to the costume, not take away from it.

*That* is why fail beak is fail. 'Nuff said.
