The twins

Post by uhu »

A rather unknown french comic, which started in the mid-1950s and ended 20 years later.
Initially called "Priscille and Olivier", the comic focused on a mid-20 couple travelling around the world due to the job of the male character, an engineer (which we actually never see working^^).
The comic was rather adult-toned (for the time), and the couple was living together, but was strangly in charge of priscilla's twin sisters (w/o explanations).
At the end of issue 7, they get married, and the focus switches very quickly on the twins, which were virtually absent in the first 7 issues.
The series is re-named "the twins" from issue 8 to mark this change.
Until issue 30, most adventures happen in rather exotic locations, always due to dad's job. After that the comic mostly concentrates on french regions.
What is quite interesing is that the characters are actually aging in real life. In the first issues, the twins were around 4-5, in the last they are around 23-24.
In the first 30 issues, the characters are mostly confronted with rather credible and dangerous baddies, and then the tone softens, most stories become harmless and centred around everyday's life.
But from time to time, the twins get confronted to thieves and spies, and in rare occasions we see a treatment (they mostly get locked in every possible place: cave, ship cabin, truck, cellar, box...).
In issue 66, they get locked up by someone wanting to steal an inheritance, and they found the heir tied up and gagged in the next room

In issue 76, they get caught by spies in west germany

In issue 78, one of the twins gets captured by gangsters hiding their loot in a cavern and disguising themselves as..bears to stay icognito (yeah forgot to tell, adventures are not only soft from issue 30, but also not credible...)

My pleasure. Just one funny notice : in the spy scene, the old guy says "I told you we should have tied them up more tightly," and the other answers that he did not do it so that they don't catch attention, so of course one of them frees herself.
