BATGIRL #34 (2019)

Post by Zorro »

That's right, everyone's favorite member of the Bat-family has a new scene this week! It's a splash page cliffhanger and I suppose some gag snobs may see it as a missed opportunity.

Anyway, in this issue Batgirl is taking on the Terrible Trio - those dudes who wear a hawk, fox, and shark masks. By then end of the story she is TKO'd by the shark dude and finds herself in a tank, upside down, strapped and in a straight jacket.

The Fox looks so proud. I bet she escapes next issue in 4 pages or less. 8)

Thanks, Zorro! :) But iunno about her going anywhere, it's only the first issue in a three-issue arc. :P And after this, the new writer takes over with Killer Moth! :D

That's a nice cliffhanger scene, with Batgirl suspended unconscious. Good find!

That's true, but many comics rarely have the heroine captured for 3 issues. That and I guess I was never thrilled with the Terrible Trio.

That's a great cover; I do find it hilarious that no matter how "woke" many comics are, the "bondage tease" cover is still very common, especially for heroines. We'll see if Killer Moth is as adept in the issue itself. ;)

Still a decent modern scene for Batgirl, IMO.

But, yeah, modern comics are at a crossroads. They still totally will do "damsel" stuff, and the "bondage cover" is still a semi reliable tease -- although not as often in the past. But you're rarely going to see that stuff play out for longer than 20% of the comic. With notable exceptions, of course.

That, and the Terrible Trio are loser villains. No way they'd get to entrap the heroine for half an issue. Only A-listers usually do that, especially Joker now that he's in his "torture porn" incarnation.

She may have gotten out quick but they didn't skimp on the panels of her in the straight jacket.

I agree! Like I said, considering comics are more about diversity and stronger heroines these days, it's a well drawn scene, especially for straitjacket fans.
