X-23 #3 (2018)

Post by Zorro »

Back in July's #2, Gabby/Honey Badger was kidnapped; tape gagged and bound in the back of a van. The villains seem to be the Stepford Cuckoos, who are all weird clones based around Emma Frost's DNA. Last issue only had a one panel tease. X-23 #3 offers more of the scene:

https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... d=139011#8 (two panel close ups of Gabby's gagged face, including some gag-talk)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... d=139011#9 (More of Gabby gagged. The panels are split because X-23 has found a van, but the wrong one)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... =139011#13 (grainy shot of Gabby manacled in a clear cage. She is no longer gagged.)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... =139011#14 (Can't see the manacles, but Gabby uses her nose to activate a tracking gadget in her belt, which allows X-23 to get a fix on her.)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... =139011#15 (Good manacle panels, 2-3 of them.)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... =139011#17 (Manacled to a chair. One dying clone wants to zap her mind into Gabby's body. The science may be modern, but the ol' mind swap plot is older than LBJ!)
https://readcomiconline.to/Comic/X-23-2 ... =139011#19 (More chair manacles. X-23 is being flown in by Archangel. The younger one, since thanks to time travel there are two versions of Archangel, Iceman, Beast, and Jean Grey kicking around. Because comics.)

This may or may not be the end of the scene for the story. X-23 is too late to stop the mind swap, and likely will have to fight Gabby next issue. But who knows? Gabby is essentially X-23's sidekick and lord knows sidekicks often get the treatment a lot.

Thanks, Zorro! I wish the artwork was better though. Artwork is really cheap-looking.

Should have left the tape on. Not cuz I'm a gag snob. Just really don't ever need to hear Gabby speak again... x_x

Yeah that's the majority of modern marvel sadly...

At lease Deadpool 2 made fun of 90's superhero artwork. Speaking of Mind swapping, this is the reason i hated about Superior Spider-Man, as we never found out how Otto swapped with Spidey's mind, and that the other heroes didn't do nothing to find out about Spider-Ock on why he has become an ass to everyone. I like a good mind swap story if it's done right. If I did a fanfic title, I let Gabby/Honey Badger be mute but still keeping her warrior instinct.

I believe it was established at the end of the SPIDER-ISLAND crossover that when Spider-Man hooked up Dr. Octopus' "octo-bots" to save the city from Queen and Jackal's spiders, it allowed Doc Ock to get a fix on his brain patterns so he could use one of those gadgets to swap minds with Peter. As for why none of the other heroes, or anyone in Peter's cast (including MJ and Aunt May, who both have literally figured out that Chameleon, a trained actor and spy, was impersonating Peter in the past within pages) figured it out for about 1-2 years...that's just bad writing.
