My reason is pretty similar to yours MB. I have no clue what got me into it specifically but I was very young easily before or around when i started school.
Although I do feel seeing it on TV and in movies is where my interest first developed. sadly i never saw Inspector Gadget growing up but there definitely was no shortage of girls being tied up or put in perilous situations. I think for me I love the scenario of the guy rescuing the gal and her falling for him. So basic D.I.D. as Phil would say from Hercules :p
