The 2003 series was more dark and more based on the Mirage Comics they were based. The 80's and 2012 version are more light toned, as the movie Turtles Forever made the 80's Turtles stupid and annoying and didn't have the original voice actors to boot.

I could see this working. The more lighter toned universes would probably work as a comedy story rather than something with an epic scope like Turtle Forever pulled off.

I wish they would do a new show in this style. Looks better than the actual series in my opinion.
