Spider-Woman's new look

USA Today has unveiled Spider-Woman's all-new costume, making her the latest in a growing line of female heroes to receive a modernized look.
The redesign comes from Marvel Comics artist Kris Anka, the creator behind recent redesigns for characters like Dazzler, Psylocke, Storm and Wolverine. The costume marks the biggest overhaul in Jessica Drew's superhero look since her debut back in 1977. Spider-Woman's new suit makes its debut today alongside her addition as a playable character in the "Spider-Man Unlimited" mobile game. The costume will make its debut in the recently launched "Spider-Woman" ongoing comic book series in March.

"As much as I'm a fan of spandex and it has its time and place, I felt Jess as a character could move away from that for a good long while," said "Spider-Woman" editor Nick Lowe. While the new look incorporates modern elements like a leather jacket and sunglasses, certain elements from her classic look -- like the web gliders and yellow spider logo -- remain.

The USA Today piece mentions that the costume was designed by Anka with input from Lowe and "Spider-Woman" writer Dennis Hopeless. The writer revealed that costume will factor into the series second arc, which kicks off in "Spider-Woman" #5 and will feature art from Javier Rodriguez. The new storyline will find Drew taking a street-level approach to helping the citizens of New York City.

"Spider-Man isn't really a detective -- he swings around looking for trouble, whereas Jess needs to go and figure stuff out and dig things up, and you can't really do that head to toe in spandex very well," said Lowe. "To operate on the level she wants to, she needs something that can pass for semi-normal and she can turn it on to crazy if she needs to."

This is a response to that recent variant cover controversy, isn't it?

Really? So I assume Batman will be dressed in a leather jacket over a t-shirt now.

Well all I can say is YAY! Another book I get to drop of my pull list next week!

Probably. They're making more of an effort to appeal to women which is probably a smart move.

The guys description is off. He could have easily said because she's a special agent and employed by the government this outfit makes more sense. I love the new look and she'd look especially nice kicking ass next to Mockingbird!

I'm thinking I may put IDW's Jem and the Holograms on my pull list when I drop this book next week. At least I have an opening to try something new.

Truth, I always liked the classic look and upon reading Spiderwoman #2 have to say think could be do to Morlun and crews home world version of Jess. Thank and the ending maybe.

Many on facebook say compre it to Wonder Woman's last outfit before the switch to nu52 and basically thats it. Nobody noticed she's gotten smaller too? Why I think its actually Ultimate Jess, actually would fit her being a sheild agent and all.
