Guardians of the Galaxy: End Credits Scene

C’mon, Internet! This is part of the reason why we can’t have nice things! The big story surrounding the end-credits sequence for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is that there is NO story… yet. The vaunted end-credits sequence – traditionally a big part of Marvel’s cinematic installments – have been left off of early print screenings of Guardians, meaning that crowds on opening day would be the first to enjoy the clip. Fans even asked Gunn, for sure, if the sequence(s) would be on Thursday evening prints, and he said:

Will Thursday’s late night showing have the end credits tag?" It will.

Except guess what? The footage leaked. It screened somewhere. And some joker with a phone (or a camera) recorded at least one of the end-credits sequences. (Marvel movies tend to have two, though we don’t know if Guardians of the Galaxy will have more than one). And because we love you guys, we watched it for you. We took that bullet. What did it show?

OK. Here we go. The sequence opens on Benecio del Toro’s character, The Collector, sitting in the room that he occupied at the end of Thor: The Dark World. The dude is beaten up, and Cosmo, the Russian dog, comes over to lick his face. The Collector drinks from a bright green cup, but says nothing. He looks exhausted, and defeated. "What do you let him lick you like that for?" a voice asks from off screen. The camera pans over… and it’s Howard the Duck! "Gross," the duck adds, before drinking from his own, similar cup. The clip ends with the title card, "Howard the Duck created by Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik."

Howard was the first Marvel movie on the big screen after all....then it bombed.
