At least it's not a complete movie tie-in...
'Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark' was announced today during Hasbro's preview event for New York Toy Fair, kicking off tomorrow from the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. The trailer shows the action we can expect to find in the title slated to be released this year, and can be viewed above. We got to catch up with a representative from Activision at the Hasbro event and find out some more details about the game.
'Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark' will run alongside the new film, Age of Extinction, the representative said, and will be "marrying two different universes, the Tranformers Cybertron universe and the Michael Bay Transformers universe," and players will get to experience characters from both environments.

Are they knocking off Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions? Because the plot reminds me of that.

Re: Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark videogame
so are they mixing something good with something rather bad in hopes that the combination will make the bad good?
personally, i had hopes for the michael bay series at first. the first movie, while it had those annoying bastard humans who should burn painfully, i felt did okay portraying the autobots. the action was pertty good as well, marrying some more subdued things with the more over the top. think my favorite fight scene was when optimus took down that decepticon on the freeway. he struck like a fucking navi seal. he struck with precision and quickness to end the threat, as i would see optimus doing; to minimize the suffering of the foe even if he had to kill them. though it so happened his kind were hard to kill to begin with.
then the other movies came along and the action became painful to watch and abandoned all sense of sanity, characterization, and decided that a continuity error in the form of only one combiner having a wrecking ball was worth making a fucking ballsack joke. not to mention it became compeltely inconsistent with how vulnerable the bots were. in the first one there was a since that they were all solid masses. the only times a transformer was rent apart was with bumblebee, who had to really, really put effort into fighting an enemy his size, and megatron, who was nearly thrive the size of his victim to begin with and had to put effort into it.
then it turns out that at some point the decepticorns and autbots decided they should be made of tinfoil........ and wtf was with that goop in the decepticons?
hopefully, despite all that, we might have something to work with in the game. if not, preparing my double middle finger salute.
