Top Ten Video Game damsels by Machinima

Post by Yami »

Not sure if this is the right topic but hey just thought I share this little Youtube find by the guys of Machinima their own version of their own top ten video game damsels in distress...which has no tie-ups but it counted down the damsels from the video games of who always seem to get into trouble and yes you guess it Princess Peach gets the number one spot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00JBJNsnsEE

Who complained about damsels in distress in videogames. She got like 100.000$ to do this or so.

are you talking about the one that did a few vids discussing the topic of DID's in videogames? because, from what I saw, she wasn't complaining, she was reviewing it, and if she were complaining, her manner and lack of hostility to it (as well as her word usage, I don't recall her ever getting vulgar or accusing about it). what I watched was an objective review about a theme throughout videogames, not a complaining rant video. it was done in a way to get information out, and not to vent hostility or opinion on the internet (AKA flaming, though there is definitely a lot of that, especially on youtube). so I don't think it's apt to say she was complaining, or that she'd be pissed. I can't see the one I watched posting a video just to show herself off getting worked up about it. maybe there's a chance we're talking about different posters? just sounds like you mean the one I watched.

on another note, is this topic really fitting for the forum? since no one's actually tied up there?

I kind of thought it was close enough to post in this topic section.

100,000 or 100? As for complaining, it was more of a biased review from a feminist stand point :P

at least it was still a review, complaining rants are much more annoying. everyone has their biases anyway, it's just that most don't refrain from diving into the moodier way of expressing their biases and views, especially on Youtube. since the one I'm thinking of was not that way I could hear it out rather than pass it up as another one of those sadly abundant rant videos.

and @Yami, I'd honestly run this by Suicide, I think it might technically fit, but I'm not sure, since the board's pretty focused on tie ups

Just curious why do people actually care so much about what she said, it's not like shes removing did from everyday lives, and more important people are actually taking time out of their lives to actually call her out lol? Wtf do people not have lives/jobs or something they have to worry about a video on youtube that is doing nothing?

This is kind of a volatile topic to bring up; it's understandable how her video could be viewed as an attack on D.I.D. of sorts, but from what I recall it just mentioned how type cast women in video games could be, and how female characters could maybe use a bit more depth at times and be more than just a "damsel in distress". Doesn't mean she said they shouldn't be imperiled at all, just that maybe they ought to have more to their character than being a "prize to be won". As someone who appreciates D.I.D. it gave me some perspective and ideas, so at the very least it was insightful. ^_^
