Walt Disney's Indiana Jones...almost

Post by ARNie »

Still, here we go again...

The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have reached a distribution and marketing agreement for the Indiana Jones franchise.

Under the arrangement, Disney gains distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining the ownership rights it secured when it acquired Lucasfilm.

Paramount will continue to be responsible for distribution of the first four films in the franchise and will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released.

How does this make you feel?

I feel that now that Disney's making decent movies again they might be able to do good by the franchise. My only question is; will they try and use Harrison Ford again, or are they going to do a prequel or some sort of "passing-on-the-torch" thing? Because the last Indiana Jones movie was awful; with Shia Labeouf's inclusion did not help matters. >:(

Decent movies like "The Lone Ranger" or "John Carter"? XD If you mean the Marvel films the Disney suits are not involved with those and have left Marvel studious fairly autonomous. I'd need to see more from Disney than the Marvel stuff to make me think they can get a franchise up and working on their own.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of "Tangled" or "Frozen", but yeah, you've a very good point there!

I also didn't find "John Carter" to be entirely bad; I liked the backdrop they realized for it but did find the dialogue and story quite lacking.

I've not seen "The Lone Ranger", nor do I ever want to (Johnny Depp playing a drunken pirate version of Tonto? I think I'll pass. ).

I was somewhat referring to the Marvel films too, but as you said they more than likely do better as a result of Disney not being a part of their creative process.

If Disney acquired Indiana Jones and found a decent enough director to do something with it, maybe it'd turn out okay. I wouldn't hold out too much hope all the same; they already killed interest in a revival with the last movie, so whatever they try and do with it now would be a mighty tall ask.

On a broader note, it's sad to see so many movies these days being remakes or continuations; it'd be nice to get fresher ideas, but then again Disney in it's hey day was borrowing heavily from tweaked fairy tails, so I guess originality was never their strong suit in the first place. :S

True ;) I was thinking of live action. I admit to not being a big fan of Marvel studious' films but I can at least acknowledge that they have a successful (if predictable) formula that has been hugely successful. I didn't think John Carter was awful (probably about 100 times better than Iron Man 3) but it was still a failure. Star Wars is bound to be a success whether it is any good or not just on the brand alone, Disney still hasn't proven they can make a non-cartoon success of anything that wasn't handed to them on a silver plate. ;)

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the third Iron Man movie was abysmal!

Movies like that one from Marvel were really taxing my patience for them; in contrast the new Thor movie was surprisingly good, and reminded me a lot of the Star Wars prequels in many ways, strangely enough.

You are correct though; Disney's had yet to have proven themselves, and until they have they'll throw whatever garbage live action movies they can at us in the meantime. D:
