Kickstarter Bondage?

Post by Daikinbakuju »

With all these Kickstarter projects of classic games booming left and right, I wonder if we could all pool money and have developers include our favorite bondage scene, in exchange for a hefty donation?

For example, there's that new Shantae game being made.

We could send a proposal that "you include a scene where Shantae is bound and gagged and we give you $2500" or something.

Not that I'm into Shantae or anything.

This wouldn't become creepy at all. Nope.

Typically the developers choose the donation rewards. I doubt they would open the door for custom requests because then any of the extra donated money would just go to developing that specific request and wouldn't really add anything to the game/project other than to those who specifically requested it.

It would be nice to use Kickstarter for such a project on our own but sadly that could easily come into the violation of their terms of use as bondage porn can be categorized as offensive and inappropriate material.

Some jackass tried to use Kickstarter to make an anime tentacle fetish game and ended up with a ton of negative publicity and his creepy little project getting pulled from the site. So yeah. Trying to bribe creators or encourage bondage or fetish stuff from creators is probably a very, very bad idea.

If you're talking about personal Kickstarter projects, I don't think it needs to be bondage porn, right?

Since we're happy with just PG-13 level of damsels in distress.

Just make a normal side-scrolling shooter or something and litter the screen with "hostages" that nets you points if you rescue them.

Matt Bozon doesn't seem to mind this sort of thing since he came across Merinthos' Shantae pic and was cool with it, but I really don't want any of you to actually try this. I would love a scene like that because I'm a Shantae fan, but not through an ultimatum like that, it would start looking bad if that kind of thing spreads to other Kickstarters like the Mighty-09 one and it becomes less about funding the game and more about personal agendas.

If I ever make a game (most likely an Indie one), I'll be sure to add as much DID as I can, so nobody has to request for anything >:3

I was going to make a post about how if we started a Kickstarter project, the DID community would likely not be enough to fund it and we'd more or less not be in good shape, like Suicide said.

I was GOING to say that, but then I actually looked at the Kickstarter projects and saw that the Kickstarter community is willing to donate for things like RPG Maker games, so maybe it'd work out better than I thought.

Well if the indie game wasn't advertised as having DiD centric game play and just happen to have DiD all over it with some rewarding game play there wouldn't really be anything suspicious with it. If the art direction looked good and the game mechanics promising it could definitely get funded. But it's also a matter of finding a programer that's capable of decent mechanics and a starting product that looks promising.

I actually did already make a proof of concept game in Gamemaker, which was a shmup style shooter that had a restraint mechanic as one of it's core gameplay elements. Nobody cared. I think there's a lot more required to move this community.

A did game doesn't have to be just massive fetish all over the place, it just has to hide the DID that we like getting captured tied up and escaping scenarios. Small stuff but a lot of it spread out through the game. A game like that will eventually be made i'm sure. However if someone did make a DID game and decide to go and sell it, they may have trouble starting up. But if it's like the artwork as posted above, I think they would do really good, in just the DID market alone.

Plus surprisingly a lot of people who don't know what DiD is. At least from the people i've come across.

I prefer if the DID is a gameplay mechanic, rather than a scripted story sequence, like your character getting captured at some point in the story and the next sequence involves a jailbreak.

My favorite example of kidnapping being a gameplay mechanic is in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, for the GBA.
Instead of Peach getting kidnapped and tied up being just a story sequence, it can happen anytime in Teehee Valley, when Mario and Luigi are escorting her.
If Peach wanders off too far, she gets captured and you need to go into a nearby altar to rescue her.

It's frustrating for other players but to DID enthusiasts like me...
