As some of us may have notice that many of today's cartoons have a bit of a cleaner edge than some of our edgier childhood cartoons of the glory days. Due to many have to deal with issues of being too influancial to the kids.
For example you don't see many cartoon characters smoking due to they might get kids thinking that smoking is okay for them to do so. Also hardly any characters drinks beer due to it might influence kids to start drinking.
Also the fact you see that many of our old cartoons have been edited due to content, racial political issues, and to cut down on gun violences. Also that many cartoon gals don't have that Jessica Rabbit type body figures due they might influence some...ahem deviant ideas to kids.
Now which they are some very good points but I don't think it would help. I mean what's to keep kids from learning bad habits like smoking and drinking with some of their family members that do it. Also they hear a lot about gun shootouts from their parents, around schools, news, internet, and even from their friends.
The point I'm trying to make is I don't think it's just cartoons that have influences on kids these days is all I'm saying. They can also learn their bad habits from schools like any other normal kids.

Not to beat a dead horse, but that's exactly the type of counter-argument considering the "harm" (quotations mine) many "concerned" parents have over things like video games, comics, etc.
And I have a feeling this kind of argument will continue to rage for a long time to come..

Yeah, there really isn't any definitive answer to this quandary; though I have to agree that neutering the content of cartoons does indeed suck. I'd say Japan has it right in introducing more mature elements to kids earlier on; but by the same token their suicide rate is rather high, (apparently the 10th highest; which is lower than I expected) but that's likely more related to overcrowding than anything else.
I'm not really sure what the solution should be; I know when I was a kid that guns were bad and girls had cooties but not every kid is the same, so there's not really any catchall answer that can really kill the problem. If anything kids should ask more questions about things, and parents should feel freer to answer (in most cases); lately I've seen so many unobserved kids running around and I feel that such behavior might be indicative of a lack of that aforementioned stimuli. If I'd have gotten any answers about fetishes (had I known to ask) I might've nipped my like for D.I.D. in the bud; but by this point I've had it for so long that I feel that it's part of my identity.
TLDR; censorship sucks, parents just don't understand, what's a fetish?

Yeah you have some truth in there Snidely but with parents those kind of subjects are not the kind of things that are easy for most parents to answer to their kids.
