Re: Merida makeover firestorm..
Until Disney makes this princess an official Disney Princess, I won't be happy:

This is worse than Manga Sabrina. Leave Merida alone as she is, Disney! Plus, what happened to Giselle from Enchanted? I know you can't have the likeness of Amy Adams popping up in Disney stuff, but Giselle is a Disney Princess too.

Speaking in a Bill Murray voice: Feminists are outraged, mothers are worried, the female (fired) director's pissed, cats and dogs are living together. Mass hysteria!
Okay for seriousness sake... I honestly don't get it. I may be speaking as a guy and I only looked at the movie just yesterday after people I knew told me to see it, but this I think is fucking overblown. I don't see much of a difference. True, she does look a little skinner and there's some make-up but other then a different dress, she looks exactly the same. People who think this "tough, courageous, and rebellious" young lady is being made a valley girl or something are hypocrites. Ugh, just as a question, where was this response with Mulan? Isn't she the same type of girl that Merida is? What about Ariel? She was rebellious and fought for her passions. Belle? She stood up to a fucking monster! In fact, how come nobody's pointed out the needless redesigns for the other Disney girls? Again, I'm speaking as a guy and if I think it's stupid, imagine how older women must feel seeing potentially some of their favorite characters looking like current Disney Channel Barbie dolls? And why do I feel dirty typing that last sentence for some reason?
The point is this whole "OH GOD! LOOK AT HER!" uproar is stupid and frankly idiotic. Merida wasn't the only tough Disney girl and I only mentioned the official princesses. Anybody remember Megara? Esmeralda? Kida? Kim Possible!? If the character acts the way she's supposed to act, who cares about how she looks? I'll admit there is an importance on appearances and how people perceive you, but isn't the old saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover?" No matter what look they've got, they're still the girls we fell in love with and still love. Just because she's wearing a fancier dress, kids, doesn't mean that Merida won't still be that Scottish bad-ass.

Two things: Who's the blonde? I know about Eilonwy but I've never seen the girl in the video before. Also I think Giselle doesn't count because she was from a parody film (a poor parody film if you ask me) and not from a "real" Disney fairy tale movie.patrickxtrem wrote:Until Disney makes this princess an official Disney Princess, I won't be happy:

It's Princess Calla from Gummi Bears.

Really? That is "dogs and cats living together!" If you are going to quote the prophet Venkman at LEAST get it right!rider28031 wrote:Speaking in a Bill Murray voice: Feminists are outraged, mothers are worried, the female (fired) director's pissed, cats and dogs are living together. Mass hysteria!
On a more serious note, they also chose to compare her to a pic where she has a dorky grin on her face, not say...this- http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/ ... 0-1200.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Forgive me! I haven't seen Ghostbusters in ages! I don't want to be struck down by the god that is Peter Venkman! Forgive me!
